Just one half into the season and Richard Pitino already was making lineup changes.
Instead of starting with a traditional center, the third-year Gophers coach had freshman point guard Kevin Dorsey replace Gaston Diedhiou to open the second half in Friday's season opener against Missouri-Kansas City.
The result was two straight three-pointers and the Gophers' largest lead of the game to that point, which set the tone in a 76-58 win over UMKC at Williams Arena.
Pitino said during the preseason that he worried about getting beat on the boards while going small with a three-guard lineup, but it helped his team spread the floor offensively to allow more open shots from beyond the arc.
