Penalties and puck possession plagued Minnesota on Friday night, as two Minnesota-Duluth power-play goals paved the way for the No. 7-ranked Bulldogs to beat the No. 13 Gophers 3-1 at Mariucci Arena.
The loss was the Gophers' fifth straight to UMD, including a loss that ended Minnesota's season in the NCAA tournament.
Minnesota (0-2) had six penalties to Duluth's two, putting its inexperienced penalty-kill units on the ice often.
The Bulldogs (1-1) scored first on the power play 12:29 into the second period, off of a Jared Thomas slap shot at the top of the left faceoff circle.
