Freshman goalie Eric Schierhorn posted his second shutout of the season to lead the Gophers men's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Minnesota State Mankato in the opening game of a nonconference series Friday night in Mankato.
Minnesota (4-4-0) thwarted five Mavericks power-play opportunities while Justin Kloos, Taylor Cammarata, Vinni Lettieri and Leon Bristedt scored goals.
Kloos forced a short-handed turnover and took advantage with his second goal of the season at 18:33 of the first period. Hudson Fasching picked up his first of two assists on the night on the play.
The Gophers have won four of their past five games, and Schierhorn improved his record to 4-4-0.
