Amanda Kessel, a star forward for Minnesota and Team USA, could play out her eligibility with the Gophers this season after recovering from concussion issues, coach Brad Frost said.
The fourth-leading scorer in Gophers history, Kessel announced her retirment in July but has eligibility remaining after taking a second redshirt season to play in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, where she had three goals and six points for the silver-medal winners.
Kessel, 24, is finishing her degree at Minnesota and has started skating with the third-rannked Gophers (18-3 overall, 13-3 WCHA).
Asked if she might play this season, Frost told reporters, "Yeah, I mean, at this point it's completely unknown.
