Minnesota's men's hockey team has added forward Mike Szmatula, a transfer from Northeastern, the Gophers announced Thursday.
Szmatula will have two seasons of eligibility after sitting out the 2015-16 season per NCAA transfer rules.
A native of Commerce Township, Mich., Szmatula collected 28 goals among 68 in two seasons with the Huskies. He was a Hockey East All-Rookie Team member in 2013-14 after ranking second in the nation in rookie points (39). He also was on the Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL) team that won the USHL title in 2012-13, earning Clark Cup MVP honors.
