SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- If the Gophers discovered anything about themselves in their two losses at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament, it was about their struggles trying to defend without fouling.
Minnesota coach Richard Pitino spent lots of time in the preseason prepping his players for the difference in officiating this season, but it didn't seem to take Sunday in their 81-68 loss to Texas Tech. The Gophers committed a season-high 26 fouls.
"In the second half, we had some opportunities to cut the lead several times and didn't make the shot and went down (court) and fouled," Pitino said.
