DETROIT -- The Gophers' secondary was able to shut down Central Michigan's highly regarded passing game in a 21-14 victory in the Quick Lane Bowl on Monday.
Chippewas junior quarterback Cooper Rush had averaged 308 passing yards per game this season but was held to 145 yards at Ford Field. Rush, who completed 67.2 percent of his passes this season, was limited to 52 percent (15 of 29), including 35 percent in the first half.
"It's pretty well documented; they've got a good secondary," Central Michigan coach John Bonamego said.
The Chippewas had success with screen passes early in the game, but the Gophers made adjustments to limit them in the second half.
