For the Gophers football program, Wednesday started with a string of somber moments.
At 7:15 a.m., players were shocked as Jerry Kill told them he would have to step down as their head coach. His epilepsy was again causing seizures and an extreme lack of sleep.
By 9, Kill chocked back tears as he shared in a news conference that a part of him died when he walked off the practice field for the last time Tuesday night.
Come 2:40 p.m., quarterback Mitch Leidner said he was still battling tears during a team meeting.
By 4:15, players and coaches were in counseling -- on the practice field.
