Gophers football: Jerry Kill impressed by young players in scrimmage

The Gophers offense and defense traded big plays in Saturday's two-hour scrimmage at Sea Foam Stadium on the Concordia-St. Paul campus.

"Saw a lot of young guys make plays," Gophers coach Jerry Kill said. "I feel good about it."

Defense didn't blitz much and the offense didn't open up the playbook, but some highlights included:

-- Backup linebacker Cody Poock intercepted backup quarterback Chris Streveler and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.

-- Starting quarterback Mitch Leidner connected with redshirt freshman wide receiver Melvin Holland on a 56-yard completion down to the defense's 7-yard-line.
