Gophers expect to break ground on Athletes Village by late fall

The University of Minnesota anticipates breaking ground on its $190 million Athletes Village project by late fall, senior associate athletics director Chris Werle said, adding that an ongoing federal Title IX investigation should not stop the project from moving forward.

"We remain confident that the Athletes Village project will move forward pending Board of Regents approval in early October," Werle said in a statement. "A late fall start date will not impact the overall project's on time completion."

In March, the U released images and details of the project online at http://nothingshortofgreatness.com, estimating the initial construction phase would be completed two years after breaking ground.
