Minneapolis North senior quarterback Tyler Johnson threw for 285 yards, rushed for 186 and scored six touchdowns -- five passing and one rushing -- in the Polars' 54-29 Class A state quarterfinal win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
"We came out and did what we needed to do," Johnson said. "Everybody made plays, and we had a lot of good plays today."
After the game Johnson reaffirmed his commitment to the Gophers, despite Jerry Kill's retirement from the head coaching position because of health concerns.
Johnson said he heard about the news on Wednesday morning when he received a few texts from fellow 2016 commits.
