SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Several of the more than 30 rule changes in NCAA Division I men's basketball this season were to aimed at increasing offense.
The Gophers struggled with those rules in Friday's 74-69 victory against Missouri State in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
Minnesota was called for a season-high 22 fouls, and five Gophers had three or more. Three players finished with fouls.
"I know I was really getting frustrated with the officiating, but that's the new rules," said senior Joey King, who was called for four fouls. "That's how the game is going to be played, so everyone, every team has to deal with their foul trouble more this year.
