Timberwolves analyst and Lynx assistant Jim Petersen wasn't torn watching his alma mater lose by 25 points to Northwestern on Saturday at Williams Arena.
That's because Petersen is a huge Wildcats fans. He was sitting behind the bench cheering on his stepson, Sanjay Lumpkin, a starting junior forward who had a team-high 10 rebounds.
But Petersen still is a passionate Gophers fan.
It's hard for him to watch Minnesota struggling, now with eight losses in the last nine games, including a 0-4 Big Ten start this season.
Petersen said fans should be patient with their coach and look to the future for optimism with a top-20 recruiting class and impact transfers like Reggie Lynch eligible in 2016-17.
