Gophers basketball coach Richard Pitino lands three-star recruit Jordan Murphy

Gophers basketball coach Richard Pitino closed out his 2015 recruiting class with a splash, landing a commitment Friday night from three-star San Antonio forward Jordan Murphy.

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound senior was released from his signed letter of intent to Virginia Commonwealth in April after Shaka Smart left to become the coach at Texas.

Murphy, who averaged 23.6 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists for Brennan High School this season, was being heavily recruited by Indiana recently.

But Murphy said he was sold on the Gophers after taking an official visit earlier this week.

"I think it was really how comfortable I was with the players and the coaching staff," he said Friday.
