A huge performance by senior outside hitter Daly Santana led the University of Minnesota volleyball team to a four-set win over Hawaii in the NCAA regional in Des Moines, punching the Gophers' ticket to the Final Four in Omaha next Thursday and Saturday.
"It was quite a battle," said coach Hugh McCutcheon, noting that after two relatively easy sets the Gophers won 25-18 and 25-13, Hawaii adjusted its lineup during halftime and came back to win the third, 26-24.
The Rainbow Wahine led for much of the fourth as well, but the Gophers overcame some loudly-booed calls by the officials and a 19-16 Hawaii lead to win the final set, 25-21.
