The Minnesota Golden Gophers fought hard but came up short against the Wisconsin Badgers, falling to their border rival in overtime, 20-17, and failing to re-claim Paul Bunyan’s Axe.
Wisconsin drove down to the Minnesota 28-yard line on their opening drive but missed wide right on a 46-yard field goal attempt. Minnesota was able to strike first when Tanner Morgan connected with running back Cam Wiley on a wheel route for a 16-yard touchdown pass, giving the Gophers a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter. The lead did not last long into the second quarter however, as Badger running back Garrett Groshek burst up the middle untouched for a 39-yard touchdown run to even it up on the next drive.
