Doug Woog, the former long-time Minnesota coach, passed away Saturday following a battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was 75.
Woog won 388 games for the Gophers over 14 seasons, from 1985 to 1999. He went to four straight Frozen Fours in his first four seasons as head coach, and six overall, and his teams won eight WCHA championships. The only national championship game appearance was in 1989, when the Gophers lost to Harvard in overtime.
After he stepped down from coaching, he spent many years as a commentator on Gophers broadcasts.
"Coach Woog was one of a kind," Gophers athletic director Mark Coyle said in a statement.
