Don Lucia stepped down as head coach of Minnesota on Tuesday after 19 years on the job, a tenure during which he won two national championships and made the Frozen Four five times. Minnesota's streak of six straight regular-season championships was snapped this year, and the Gophers missed the NCAAs by .0001 RPI points.
In all, Lucia coached 37 years in college hockey, at Alaska-Fairbanks and Colorado College prior to Minnesota, going 708-408-98. He said he will not coach again, but instead spend time with his family and try to find a niche to help college hockey in some other way.
