Mikayla Bailey scored 22 points, Rachel Banham and Carlie Wagner added 20 apiece and Minnesota edged Stetson 72-69 Friday in the Gophers' opener at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.
Banham, a redshirt senior, needs just 10 points to match Lindsay Whalen's career scoring mark of 2,285 points, set in 2004.
Minnesota (4-0) led 23-18 after one quarter, with all but two points coming from Bailey or Banham. Bailey finished with a career-high six three-pointers, hitting 6 of 11 from beyond the arc.
Despite nine points from Wagner in the second quarter, Stetson (3-2) built a seven-point lead, and the Hatters were up 40-39 at halftime and 56-54 after three quarters.
