Jerry Kill's small circle of confidants includes Jim Carter, the former University of Minnesota star running back from South St. Paul.
Before Kill announced Wednesday morning that he would be retiring as Gophers football coach, he called Carter to inform him of his decision.
Carter and Kill meet weekly to discuss football and life, not necessarily in that order. When Kill didn't show up for their regular meeting at Kill's office on Tuesday, Carter had one immediate thought.
"Seizures," he said.
Kill's bouts with epileptic seizures have been well chronicled. Among issues has been trying to slow down his mind, which constantly races because that's his personality.
