St. Francis — Thon Maker has taken a long journey from the South Sudan to Australia to Virginia to Canada.
But now the 19-year-old basketball player with so much promise is making another stop, and certainly one that could not have been predicted: Milwaukee.
The 7-foot-1 Maker landed with the Milwaukee Bucks on draft night with the 10th overall pick, a choice that surprised him despite his good workout with the team on June 15.
It happened because he impressed Bucks officials so much with his attitude and will to work, after Maker stayed in the gym an extra hour and 45 minutes with Bucks coaches after his initial workout.
