Team USA needed a challenge to save the Men’s Olympic basketball tournament from getting dull, and the Australian Boomers certainly delivered one.
The Boomers excelled in their first two games thanks to high quality execution and incredible desire, and when they came out of the blocks fast against the USA on Wednesday it was immediately clear that this game was going to be no different.
Carmelo Anthony was red-hot early on and throughout most of the game, as he often is in FIBA play. Melo racked up the first nine points for Team USA, and didn’t stop there, ending the first half with 17 points and 5-7 made three-pointers.
