Giannis and Greece Fall to Spain, Olympic Hopes in Jeopardy

Related Topics: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Greece

In a battle at the cellar of the Group of Death, Greece fell to Spain in a gripping game, 84-77.

Greece led throughout the first quarter but would only close up 22-21. Giannis and company shot and defended well, although they couldn’t take advantage of spending half the quarter in the bonus. Santi Aldama scored most of Spain’s early buckets before handing the baton to Harden-esque Sergio Llull, who decided he couldn’t miss from deep. It was a different story in the second quarter, as Greece stopped finding the netting and Spain hit it repeatedly. Ball movement (especially in transition) was a big discrepancy, with Spain spreading the basketball around to the tune of 11/17 on threes at the half while Greece dropped to 6/18 on the half.
