Even with new players, Bucks hope defense will remain strong

St. Francis — Defense was the Milwaukee Bucks' calling card last season.

The Bucks ranked fifth in the NBA in field goal percentage defense (43.7%), eighth in points allowed (97.4 per game), tied for first in steals (8.6), first in opponent turnovers (17.4) and 11th in blocks (4.8).

Milwaukee's suddenly stingy defensive unit sparked the team's resurgence as it posted a 41-41 record and reached the playoffs in its first season under coach Jason Kidd.

But can the Bucks duplicate that down-and-dirty defense again this season?

"I think it's going to be the same," Bucks guard Jerryd Bayless said.
