Hurricane Katrina displaced the New Orleans native as an infant and Smith grew up in Houston. He spent a couple years with Overtime Elite instead of playing for his high school, where he competed against the Thompson twins of last year’s top ten and Alexandre Sarr, who went second overall this year.
