The Milwaukee Bucks took a step back last season after missing the playoffs, and they're looking to free agency to help them add the missing pieces they need to help them return to the postseason in 2017. Here are all the latest Bucks news and rumors below.
Bucks targeting Noah
The Greg Monroe experiment did not work out as the Bucks had planned last season, so they're focused on adding more frontcourt depth. That search has led them to targeting Joakim Noah this offseason, according to the Sporting News.
Three other teams — the Knicks, Timberwolves and Bucks — are also planning to make substantial offers to Noah, who played only 29 games last season before suffering a shoulder injury. If the Bulls come calling, he probably won’t even take their call.
Noah also has a big fan in Jason Kidd, who has soured on Greg Monroe, only one season into a deal that has two seasons to run. The Bucks tried to trade him in recent days, but the Celtics and other teams had no interest. Kidd has told associates he thinks Noah’s toughness and experience will greatly help his young rising stars, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker. He’ll have to convince Noah, though, that he can be happy relocating to a small market.
Noah averaged 4.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game last season.
Milwaukee still torn about Maker?
The Bucks drafted Thon Maker with the No. 10 overall pick in the NBA Draft, which was one of the biggest surprises of the draft since he was projected to be a late first round pick. Apparently, the Bucks weren't (and still aren't) entirely sold on Maker when the drafted him, according to Woelfel's Press Box.
If you’re torn as to whether the Milwaukee Bucks made the correct call in selecting Thon Maker with the 10th overall pick in last Thursday night’s NBA draft, you aren’t alone. Sources said there were varying opinions within the Bucks’ organization as to whether Maker should be their guy as well. Most NBA teams projected the 19-year-old Maker as a mid-first to late-first round selection. “There was a split on who to take,’’ the source said of the Bucks and who they wanted as their top pick. “He (Maker) wasn’t the only one that was talked about."
The 7'1", 220 lbs. Maker declared for the draft without going to college, and was deemed eligible after spending an extra year in prep school.
