Steve Stanicek was drafted in the first round (11th overall) by the San Francisco Giants in the 1982 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft. He spent four seasons as a Giants farmhand before being traded to the Brewers in March 1986 for a guy that I wrote about last year, Rob Dewolf.
Stanicek spent two years at Class A Fresno and two seasons at AA Shreveport before going over to the Brewers near the end of Spring Training in 1986. He was assigned to Class AA El Paso that year; we will discuss that season more in detail next week.
