The Brewers added potential bullpen depth Thursday, inking veteran reliever Ernesto Frieri to a Minor League deal with an invite to Spring Training, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. The club has not confirmed the report.
A former closer, Frieri once saved 71 games over a three-year span. But he's pitched only sporadically in the Majors since 2014. Frieri lost his closer role with the Angels by posting a 6.39 ERA that season before being traded to the Pirates, where he again struggled. He pitched for the Rays in '15, spent most of '16 in the Minor Leagues and appeared in six games for the Rangers last season.
