As we wait to see whether the Brewers make any moves to improve their infield before spring training, I thought it would be an interesting time to go back through team history and look at some of the team’s best trades. I’ve ranked the top five trades with the following considerations in mind: What did they get? What did it cost? What was the direct result of the trade?
With those things in mind, here we go.
5. December 12, 2022: Milwaukee sneaks into the “Sean Murphy Trade”
Full trade: Milwaukee gets William Contreras from Atlanta and Joel Payamps from Oakland; Atlanta gets Sean Murphy from Oakland; Oakland gets Robyer Salinas, Kyle Muller, Manny Piña, and Freddy Tarnok from Atlanta and Esteury Ruiz from Milwaukee
It’s been two years since this trade, and Contreras has won the National League Silver Slugger at catcher in both years and made the All-MLB team as baseball’s best catcher in 2024.
