On the heroes of September

“I think he’s more talented than I was.”

- Robin Yount, on Christian Yelich

Here’s the scene:

Another must-win game. The Chicago Cubs have already lost to the Cardinals, 2-1, opening the door for the Milwaukee Brewers to move into a tie for first place in the NL Central. The game at hand against the Detroit Tigers is tied in the 7th inning, 5-5. With one out, Christian Yelich steps up to the plate. He’s already hit one home run in the game, a two-run blast in the third inning. Lefty Daniel Stumpf, pitching for Detroit, gets a slider over for a called strike one.
