The Brewers announced that former closer John Axford, who played for the team from 2009-13 and again briefly in 2021, has been selected to the team’s Wall of Honor. An affable, handlebar-mustachio’d, high-sock-wearing fan favorite, Axford was an underdog who became one of the best relievers in the National League for a couple of years in the early 2010s. The Wall of Honor is one of the highest honors a former Brewer can get from the team, surpassed in prestige only by the more selective Walk of Fame and, at the highest level, jersey retirement.
Axford was drafted by the Mariners in the seventh round in 2001 but elected not to go pro at that time.
