Chicago — The pop in Jean Segura's bat has somehow, inexplicably, disappeared.
Coming into Thursday the Milwaukee Brewers shortstop had exactly two extra-base hits since June 1, a span of 61 games, 248 plate appearances and 239 at-bats. Both were home runs.
Segura snapped that crazy streak with a fifth-inning double in the Brewers' 9-2 loss at Wrigley Field. His ability to drive the ball to the gaps and down the lines resulted in a combined 34 doubles and 16 triple over the past two season, but Segura has gone almost 21/2 months without either.
