While his aspirations remain to become an everyday player, Jason Rogers has carved out a nice niche as the Milwaukee Brewers' best pinch hitter.
Rogers entered the Brewers' series opener against the New York Mets on Tuesday night at Miller Park tied with four other players for the major-league lead in pinch hits with eight.
"That's pretty neat," the soft-spoken utility man said. "Pinch-hitting's tough."
It's also a role that few inexperienced players like Rogers excel at, which makes the 27-year-old's success more impressive. Among those tied with Rogers are Ichiro Suzuki and Skip Schumaker, a pair of seasoned veterans.
