Hernan Perez was granted free agency by the Milwaukee Brewers on Nov. 6, 2015. After briefly testing the open market, he chose to re-sign with the Brewers on a minor league deal on Nov. 16, 2015, apparently seeing an opportunity to return to the big leagues despite not being on the 40 man roster. Hernan performed well in the spring and went to AAA Colorado Springs to begin the 2016 season, and was recalled to the Brewers in late April.
The Latin Babe Ruth (so named by Pirates pitcher Jameson Taillon last August because he hit him so well) became a very valuable member of the Brewers during the 2016 season (8th most valuable according to BCB readers) by playing every position except pitcher and catcher, hitting well, and stealing 34 bases in 41 attempts.
