Hernan Perez, who has seen most of the action at third base since the trade of Aramis Ramirez, does not fit the profile of the slugger teams normally want at that position. Entering Saturday, Perez had one home run in 129 plate appearances this season with a .390 slugging percentage.
Perez isn't an on-base specialist, either, with only three walks and a .294 on-base percentage. But at age 24 and with scant big-league experience, he might get better in both areas, which is why the Brewers will continue to look at him at the hot corner.
