MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers placed right-hander Matt Garza on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday and will recall Paolo Espino to start Thursday's series finale against the Giants at Miller Park.
Garza's injury was technically termed a "chest contusion," but in practice he has symptoms of whiplash. That's how hard Garza crashed into 250-pound first baseman Jesus Aguilar during Garza's last start, causing soreness in his neck and shoulder that impeded a bullpen session on Tuesday.
The hope is that Garza will miss only one start. He will attempt another bullpen session during the Brewers' road series against the D-backs from Friday-Sunday.
