Phoenix — When you're trying to make a big-league club out of spring training, it never hurts to play well during exhibition games.
Sometimes, however, strong performances aren't enough.
There's more to constructing a roster than merely picking those who played well in camp. The track record of an established player who doesn't show much in games usually counts for more than a big showing by a newcomer, assuming they are fighting for the same job. Brewers manager Craig Counsell, for instance, often mentions track records as a major part of his evaluation process.
