Pittsburgh— Former second baseman Jim Gantner, who had his left knee wrecked not once but twice on take-out slides while playing for the Brewers, had a one-word reaction to the new sliding rule that helped Milwaukee beat Houston on the team's first home stand.
"Terrible," said Gantner, who watched the play on TV.
Don't get Gantner wrong. He still bleeds Brewers blue and comes out on home stands to assist as an unofficial coach. He was quite happy the Brewers won. Just not the way it happened.
For those who didn't see it, the Astros were in the midst of a four-run, ninth-inning rally that chopped the Brewers' seemingly safe 6-0 lead to two runs.
