Frank Bolling had not hit a grand slam in 11 seasons in the major leagues, so it was the last thing on his mind as he stepped in the batter's box with the bases loaded against the great Sandy Koufax.
"He got behind 3-0 in the count, so I knew he had to throw me a strike," recalled the Milwaukee Braves second baseman.
Koufax indeed threw Bolling a strike. Two of them, in fact. Bolling sent the second one down the left-field line and over the wall for a second-inning grand slam that put the Braves on top of the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-1.
