The Milwaukee Brewers' trade of third baseman Aramis Ramirez on July 23 opened the door to regular playing time for Hernan Perez.
And for a few weeks afterward, Perez was the guy at third base. But with Elian Herrera swinging a hot bat since his call-up from Class AAA Colorado Springs on July 31 and Perez struggling against right-handed pitching, playing time has been more scarce for the 24-year-old Venezuelan.
"We're using Hernan against left-handed starters," manager Craig Counsell said before the Brewers' 5-0 shutout of the Cincinnati Reds on Friday.
