MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers reportedly are ready to move Craig Counsell from the front office to the dugout beginning Monday, when the team formally announces a new manager in the wake of Ron Roenicke's dismissal.
General manager Doug Melvin would not comment on Roenicke's replacement Sunday night, saying, "We'll take it one step at a time here. This came together fairly quickly."
Melvin told one reporter, Greg Matzek of 620-AM WTMJ, the Brewers' flagship, that the new manager would not carry an "interim" tag, and would instead get a multiyear deal. Ken Rosenthal of MLB Network cited anonymous sources in reporting Counsell would get the job.
