The Brewers took their series opener against the Cardinals Thursday night, as Milwaukee homered three times and totaled six runs off starter Sonny Gray in a 7-1 victory.
After Brice Turang was robbed by Lars Nootbaar to open things up in the first, Milwaukee got on the board quickly as William Contreras and Christian Yelich both singled. Willy Adames grounded out to move both runners over, and Contreras then scored on a wild pitch. Rhys Hoskins added to the 1-0 lead with a two-run homer, making it 3-0 after one frame.
Jake Bauers then led the second inning off with a homer of his own, making it 4-0.
