Brewers show that a lot can change in a year

It is an anniversary the Milwaukee Brewers will not celebrate.

Exactly one year ago, the Brewers began a nine-game trip with a rousing 10-1 victory in San Diego. It was their 12th victory in 19 games, leaving them with a 73-58 record and a 1½-game lead in the National League Central.

That night, no one in the visiting clubhouse at PETCO Park could imagine what lied ahead. The Brewers would not win another game until Sept. 5. By then, they had lost nine in a row and fallen four games behind St. Louis in the division.

The irreversible downward spiral would morph into 13 losses in 14 games and a shocking 9-22 collapse that left the shell-shocked Brewers with an 82-80 record, eight games out and in third place.
