Phoenix – The last thing the Milwaukee Brewers wanted to talk about Sunday was an exhibition victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers after outfielder Rymer Liriano was hit in the face by a pitch and carted off the field at Maryvale Baseball Park.
Liriano, 24, trying to win a job on the opening day roster, was struck by a pitch from Dodgers right-hander Matt West, who had just entered the game with one out in the eighth inning. Liriano went down and remained motionless on the ground as medical personnel rushed to his aid.
After several minutes, Liriano was immobilized on a stretcher and placed on a cart to be transported off the field.
