Pat Murphy, a longtime friend and former college coach of Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell, will be hired as his bench coach according to a report in The San Diego Union-Tribune.
Murphy is already something of a familiar name in Milwaukee. The Brewers tried unsuccessfully to hire him to their staff shortly after Counsell replaced Ron Roenicke, who was fired in early May.
Instead, the San Diego Padres promoted Murphy from manager of their Class AAA affiliate El Paso on June 16. He was made interim manager of the major-league club when Bud Black was fired.
