Philadelphia — Tyler Thornburg's 1-2-3 eighth inning on Saturday earned the right-hander a spot in the Milwaukee Brewers' record book.
With a strikeout of Cody Asche, Thornburg extended his consecutive batters retired streak to 23, which is longest in franchise history for a reliever and tied for sixth-longest on the club.
The previous mark of 22 had been held by Dan Plesac (1987) and Derrick Turnbow (2005), and Thornburg fell a batter short of tying it back in April 2014. Jaime Navarro retired 28 straight in 1992, the longest streak in club history, and Thornburg is now tied with Cal Eldred (1993), Ben Sheets (2004) and Mike Fiers (2014).
