Los Angeles —Chris Capuano knew the final step in his throwing program — facing hitters in simulated action — would be the crucial one as he prepared to return to game action.
Unfortunately for the veteran lefty, that proved true in a bad way.
The Milwaukee Brewers reliever experienced discomfort in his elbow taking that step Saturday and now will step away to be examined by team physician William Raasch. Capuano will head back to Milwaukee on Sunday and undergo testing either Monday or Tuesday.
"We'll maybe get some images taken; we haven't done that yet," said Capuano, who went on the disabled list on May 26 with elbow inflammation.
