Los Angeles — Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Sunday the main goal in sending reliever Corey Knebel to the minors is to get him regularly scheduled work to sharpen his pitches.
Late Saturday night, the Brewers optioned Knebel to Class AAA Colorado Springs to make room on the roster for reliever Michael Blazek, who came off the 15-day DL. Knebel missed the first two months of the season with an oblique strain and had struggled for the most part in five outings with the Brewers.
Over 41/3 innings, Knebel allowed six hits and six walks with six strikeouts and an 8.
