On the first day with Brewers players in spring training today, we have a few bits of news to share. First, the Brewers made just their third major league signing of the offseason, and no, it’s not a third baseman. Milwaukee has given a major-league deal to 30-year-old lefty Tyler Alexander.
Alexander pitched in 23 games for the Tampa Bay Rays last season, nine of which were starts, and had a 5.10 ERA/5.08 FIP. Alexander is a solid control pitcher who limits walks, but he doesn’t strike a ton of batters out, with a fastball that averages just 89.
