MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers promoted from within Friday to fill their farm director vacancy, naming longtime club employee Tom Flanagan to the post.
Flanagan, 42, began his baseball career as a Brewers batboy in 1990 and worked his way up the organizational ladder. He was a baseball operations assistant from 1996-99, the team's assistant scouting director from 2000-05 and spent the past 10 seasons in a more senior role, most recently as senior director of baseball administrations.
In that post, Flanagan was involved in contract negotiations and day-to-day administration of the baseball operations department. He also worked closely with amateur scouting director Ray Montgomery preparing for the Draft, and with former farm director Reid Nichols in matters of personnel and staffing in the Minor League chain.
